I have been mega busy with work as per normal. I work for the Ministry of Defence as a project manager and as you may have noticed since last year there have been a number of large political happenings globally that make for a very busy time for those of us who work to support the military.
However I have been going to the gym at least 3 times a week still so I have been training, just not had enough time to write about it.
With regards to Bath Half Marathon the unfortunate news is I may or may not be able to participate! I have injured both ankles in the space of time since I last wrote; one incident was due to standing on the edges of my feet (which I tend to do when bored) but I had platform shoes on, the next day the ligaments in my ankle were not happy at all!! This niggled an old injury which occurred when someone (who shall remain nameless) twisted my foot around during a disagreement, lets say. The other was slightly more spectacular, I nipped into my bedroom to retrieve a power cable for our laptop, lazily neglected to turn on the light and on the way out in my haste tripped over the corner of the bed twisting my other ankle, landing on my thigh on the corner of the bed before sliding on our cord-like carpet which took some skin off of my knees and somehow, the back of my wrist. As a result my training was light on running for a couple of weeks and I do still get some niggly pain. I also pushed myself a bit too hard on my last run; felt sick afterwards, couldn’t do my weight training and almost fainted in the shower in the gym- not a good time! I think this may have been mainly down to a lack of sugar/energy as I’ve been low-carbing again and had not thought to have a few more carbs that day to get me through a gym session. Stupid me. Very strange; I felt fantastic for about 1 minute afterwards before things went downhill!
What this means is that I’m probably no better prepared than the last time! However as I am not running for personal glory this doesn’t really matter; it’s all about the effort on the day. What I have to consider is whether I am going to cause longer term injury by participating in two weeks time. I would still like to do it but obviously not at the cost of hurting myself. So it will be a case of watch this space! I have not had chance to get my sponsorship campaign going either; if I decide that I am going to run then I will start. If that happens to be the day before the race then I will collect after the fact!
On the other hand my younger brother wants to run Bristol 10k in May, I said if he signed up I would and I will be collecting sponsorship for that if we run. I will definitely be running (touch wood!!) the Bristol Half in September- I will have had all year to train (which I am starting to enjoy, just a smidge tho!) and so I should definitely be able to predict a good time with which to pry sponsorship money from people with!
In other news, my elder brother is in Afghanistan where he tells me there has been torrential rain since he arrived! Not quite what I imagined the weather would be like. He seems to be in good spirits though and I will be sending him some provisions over Easter to look forward to. He will be back sometime in June for 2 weeks holiday and should come back for good in August.
My younger brother applied to Bath, Bristol and University of the West of England (UWE) to do computer science as I have explained previously, he has been offered a place at UWE, an interview for a place at Bath and basically been offered a place on Bristol’s Computer Science with Electronics course; a 4 year course, one year being in America! I have informed him that I take some personal glory from his achievement for helping him with his application statement :-) and that he is to tell me when he is off to America so I can plan a visit!
Looking forward to finishing work at about 3:15 today so I can go home and catch up on the sleep that I have not had for two nights thanks to my cats. They seem to be taking it in turns to ensure that I don’t sleep at the moment! And I will remember to stuff something carby down my cakehole before the gym!
