Training week 1 Friday March 4th

Well…I did it!!! 7k outside still in an hour (one hour and one minute to be precise but meh) I am so chuffed with that. I did each lap round Abbey Wood in 20 minutes, this is very good for me!! I didn’t run all the way as I can’t do that yet but I think my progress so far is good from not being able to run for 2 minutes at a time!!

By the time I finished running and walked back up the big hill to my house (fun!!!) and then up my stairs to my lounge (I live in a coach house) my legs were starting to ache a little. I did a few stretches and this seemed to help. However when I took my trainers off the arches of my feet were in agony!!!!

I have low arches in my feet- not flat-footed but still quite low as opposed to my lucky mother who has ballet dancer’s feet.  I have good Asics trainers which correct mild over-pronation. This is what happens when people with low arches run, your feet roll inwards too far and this can cause injury and pain, apparently 70% of runners do this. My trainers are supposed to help correct this, they are very comfortable when running, it’s just when I take them off it hurts to put my feet flat, again I think at the moment I put this down to my weight not helping the effect of impact to my feet. I jumped straight into a warm bath in the hope that it would hold off the acheyness.

As the night wore on and after a few beers then pain seemed to ease… funny old thing. It wasn’t too late a night however as I was completely wiped out from my run. Must save some energy for beveraging on a Friday evening.

I missed zumba today as my legs are achey, not severely achey but enough to make me think twice about over-doing it as I may be going for a run over the weekend with my neighbour Lorraine. I have also been talking to friends on Facebook about this running group again (Sole Sisters). They have different groups to match speed and distance and I have been told their 4 mile group take more than an hour and have frequent stops, this sounds manageable to me so I will give that a go on Monday I think. I can progress through the groups over time hopefully. All I can do is try it I suppose!

Week 2 PLAN
Maybe fit in a run over the weekend with Lorraine
Saturday:         Yoga

Sunday:           I'm faiiiirly sure it's pretty much illegal to exercise on a Sunday? Best to err on the side of caution me thinks.

Monday:          Go to Sole Sisters and try the 4 mile group
Tuesday:         Zumba

Wednesday:   REST (I'm going out for a meal and a beer with the ladies I did accountancy qualifications with!!)

Thursday:        Gym on  for a treadmill session, goal: 8k in 1hr 10
Friday:             Zumba

I also saw on Facebook the fantastic news that Jo Reed's son Evan now has no cancer cells and is free from cancer. Excellent news and I wish Jo, John and their boys Corey and Evan a happy and healthy 2011.
